The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Major Role in Iconic Rivalry

Test match action

The Australian skipper has claimed 309 Test scalps in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

Australia's chief selector George Bailey has stated that skipper Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.

Earlier indications from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding whether he would play, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on the 21st of November in Perth.

He revealed that his recovery is on track and felt positive about the likelihood of taking part.

"It's clear that the window is narrowing and various factors at play, aside from the back issue, but further aspects," he commented.

"It's positive. [We are] really confident that he's going to play a major part. Hopefully starting in Perth. Should that not happen, then we'll pick it up."

Past Concerns

The captain missed the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after examinations confirmed a stress reaction in his back.

There is a track record of recurring issues, with setbacks in multiple past seasons forcing him out of multiple domestic campaigns in four years.

The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the series.

He mentioned that there was no confirmation if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but admitted it was "getting tight" for him to be fit for the opener.

Backup Options

Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their one-day international series against the Asian giants as a safety move because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and stated that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."

"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the initial game as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.

"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs regardless. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
